What Distance Class Formats Does NCSC Offer?
Fully Online Classes

Section 92x

Sections 92x (ie 920, 921 etc.)

All class activities are online via Blackboard with no live meetings

(outside of a possible intial orientation)

Upsides:
> Offers most *time* & *place* flexibility.
> Good for independent learners.
> Do not have to be on campus regularly.
> Can attend class in your PJs 🙂
Trade-Offs:
> Need excellent time management
> Need to be independently motivated.
> No live interaction with your classmates or instructor.
> Need reliable Internet access.
Elluminate Hybrid Classes

Section 91x

Sections 91x (ie 910, 911 etc.)
All class activities are online via Blackboard, but with regular required ONLINE live class meeting times,  via Elluminate virtual classroom.
No campus visits neccessary.
Upsides:
> Gives flexibility in the *place* of your learning.
> Regular live (audio) interaction with your instructor and or classmates.
> Usually fewer LIVE meetings than a regular course.
> Can save gas and not have to drive to main campus.
Trade-Offs:
> Don’t have *time* flexibility of fully online –  regular live online meetings required.
> Need good time management skills.
> Need reliable *High speed* Internet, a Mic and ear buds/headphones.
On Campus Hybrid Classes

90x

Sections 90x (ie 900, 901 etc.)
Some class activities are online via Blackboard, but there are also regular required ON-CAMPUS live class meetings.
Upsides: 
> Offers weekly face to face interaction with instructor and classmates.
> Fewer regular classroom meetings than regular course.
Trade-Offs:
> Don’t have full *time* flexibility  –  regular live on-campus meetings required.
> Still have to be on campus at least once a week.
> Need to manage time to be able to do online work.
> Need reliable Internet access.
Outreach Centers/ Video Conferencing Classes

Section 95x

Sections 95x (ie 950, 951 etc.)
Regular live class sessions, but through live, High Definition links, can attend class at one of the four NC State Outreach Centers.
Upsides: 
> Regular live (HD video) interaction with your instructor and classmates.
> Have few technology demands placed on you…
> Can save gas and not have to drive to main campus.
> Closest of the distance formats to a regular live class.
Trade-Offs:
> Don’t have the full flexibility of fully online.
> Same twice weekly regular meetings as a regular class.
> Do not have  instructor in same physical location.
